Lake Crystal Fire Department Customer Spotlight

Posted in Customer Spotlights on May 14, 2018

Lake Crystal Fire Department became one of the hundreds of Midwest Fire apparatus serving American cities and towns in April 2017. Fire Chief Jeff Becker initially heard about Midwest Fire by word of mouth and referrals from other trusted neighboring departments who had been pleased with their equipment and service in the past.

Becker felt confident that Midwest Fire was the right company to build their custom-made 2017 Freightliner Pumper-Tanker with a 2,000-gallon tank and a 1,000 GPM Hale pump.

This apparatus helps the department to serve 125 square miles including Lake Crystal, MN and seven surrounding cities and townships, responding to an average of 80 calls a year, including car accidents. Becker adds that among the upgrades they chose was an Elkhart Sidewinder Electric Monitor, which is designed for wildland firefighting, de-icing and dust abatement operations while reducing the potential risk for firefighter injury.

“One major issue our Midwest truck has helped to resolve is ease of operation and driving—this has been a major improvement,” says Becker.

Beyond the quality of the equipment and operational improvements the new apparatus has brought to Lake Crystal Fire Department, Chief Becker adds that the personal, hands on customer service made the purchasing experience one he would be happy to repeat in the future.
