Being Prepared for a Harsh Fire Season

May is National Wildfire Awareness Month. Wildfires are neither planned nor wanted, but that doesn’t mean we can’t be prepared to handle them when they do happen. The Brush Truck is a first attack vehicle that is likely to be used in incidents with car accidents, grass fires, wildfires, and more. The Brush Truck is a great resource for mobile water supply, which is very beneficial in fighting wildfires. This vehicle is able to get where other apparatus are unable to because of its size and capabilities.

Dave Woodrick, Fire Chief of Franktown Fire Department in Franktown, Colorado purchased four apparatus from Midwest Fire including two Brush Trucks. Franktown Fire Department purchased its first Brush Truck in 2013, and a Quick Attack in 2017. Earlier this month the Franktown Fire Department received their second Brush Truck and second Quick Attack

Franktown Brush Truck- Delivery 3021

“At every step of the process, Midwest Fire constantly provides a great apparatus buying experience,” said Fire Chief Woodrick. “The team at Midwest Fire is very easy to connect with. They really work with you to ensure you are getting the apparatus you want. The team is quick to respond to any and all needs. Seeing firsthand how Midwest Fire did their best at delivering our agency such a quality fire truck and service, it made the decision to buy three more over the years with them easy.”

In order to be adequately prepared for the 2020 fire season, we need to take a look at what’s being predicted and be sure we have the tools we need. The 2020 fire season is expected to last from May-August. According to The Week, “Scientists predict above-average U.S. wildfire activity for 2020 after sharp drop in 2019.” Knowing that this fire season is expected to be more aggressive than last year, fire departments need to be prepared accordingly.

What are some other things you can do to help prevent wildfires?

  • Report unattended fires.
  • Extinguish fire pits and campfires when done.
  • Don’t throw lit cigarettes out of your moving car.
  • Use caution when using flammable liquids.
  • Pay attention to local ordinances for trash burning.
  • Only use fireworks in clear areas with no woods nearby.
