Midwest Fire is here to build a custom apparatus for your department. Once your custom apparatus is built, you’ll need to stock it with the proper equipment!

Fire Equipment Checklist

Having a fully equipped truck is important for any fire department – almost as important as the truck you put it all on! To properly stock your fire apparatus, follow this list, guided by jonsmidamerica.com:

  • Supply hose. A single engine company should carry at least 1200’ of supply hose with a diameter of 2 ½” or larger. Supply hoses may come in a combination of diameters depending on flow requirements — such as 2”, 2 ½” or 3”.
  • 200’ booster hose. An extra pre-connected 1 ½’ hose may substitute.
  • 400’ carried hose in 1 ½” diameter.
  • One spare hose 1 ½” diameter spare 200’ in length and one spare hose 2 ½” diameter 400’ in length.
  • Heavy stream appliance with a flow capacity of 1,000 gpm
  • At least 10 gallons of carried foam and 15 gallons of spare
  • One distributing nozzle
  • One 1 ½” foam nozzle
  • Two 2 ½” straight stream nozzles with shut-off
  • Two 2 ½” combination nozzles with shut-off
  • Two 1 ½” combination nozzles with shut-off
  • One hose clamp
  • One hydrant gate of 2 ½”
  • One burst hose jacket of 2 ½”
  • One gated wye of 2 ½” x 1 ½” x 1 ½”
  • At least one 12’ or 14’ roof ladder
  • At least one 24’ extension ladder
  • At least four sets of SCBA gear (face mask, pressure regulator and a high-pressure tank of 2200 to 4500 psi). These should be mounted on a frame with a minimum of 30-minute supply of oxygen per unit.

Making sure these items are in your apparatus will ensure your department is ready for any situation. And while these items are important, making sure your fire apparatus is built to your needs and is in excellent condition is also important.
